Community paddy nurseries have
been raised in eight acres in Amoor of Tiruchi district by the small and
marginal farmers as making use of the services rendered by Government of
Tamilnadu as a package of various promotional efforts to raise samba crop. As announced
by the Trichy district Collector Jayashree Muralidharan, under the special
scheme for samba cultivation to cover more area using less water and get higher
yield. Forming community nurseries in the farmers’ lands of Amoor had been undertaken
using pump sets which could bring down the duration of cultivation by two to
three weeks. The farmer K.Devendran of Amoor mentioned that he got 200 kg of
certified seeds from the Agriculture Department for raising community nursery and
certain other benefits for cultivation of rice.K.Devendran added by taking up
community nurseries, he has been permitted to use the seedlings raised in 20
per cent of the total area of the nursery for his own use while distributing
the rest to other farmers. Now the nursery had been transplanted and paddy
field is well taken care of. The farmer hopes for better returns for this Samba
as it was planned properly inspite of water shortage this year. K.Devendran and
the other benefiting farmers appreciated the support of Trichy District
Agriculture Department officials and District Collector Jayashree Muralidharan for
the efficient application of Government of Tamilnadu services-Govin
