A Special Pooja was reverently performed at the sacred Sri Samayapuram Mariamman Temple, invoking the divine grace of Samayapuram Mariamman Thai for the continued prosperity, growth, and well-being of SEVAI and its dedicated functionaries. The sacred ritual was conducted by SEVAI Additional Director, Smt. Sudha Bhyas, along with her husband Sri Bhyas, with heartfelt prayers for the successful and uninterrupted running of the organisation in service of the community.

The prayers offered at the sanctum were deeply personal and profound – seeking Mariamman Thai’s abundant blessings for the health, strength, and well-being of Bhyas-Sudha, and for their beloved Nitheeswaran, that he may be showered with divine grace, wisdom, and protection in all his endeavors.

Samayapuram Mariamman Thai, the beloved Mother Goddess renowned for her compassionate gaze and swift response to her devotees’ prayers, is believed to remove obstacles, ward off afflictions, and bestow _aarogyam_ and _nimmadhi_ upon all who seek her refuge. On this auspicious occasion, it is believed that Her blessings have been invoked to safeguard SEVAI’s mission, to strengthen the hands of its functionaries, and to ensure peace and prosperity within the Bhyas-Sudha household.

During their visit to the temple, the couple had the privilege of meeting Smt. Shantha Sheela Nair, IAS, the District Collector of Tiruchirappalli, within the temple premises. The confluence of devotion and service at the feet of Mariamman Thai marked the occasion with added sanctity.

Celebrating Education and Tamil Heritage: SEVAI Inaugurates Literary and Eco Clubs at Pettavaithalai*

The Literary Club, Eco Club, and a seed fund of Rs. 50,000 from SEVAI were inaugurated at SEVAI Shanthi Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Pettavaithalai, in a dignified ceremony celebrating education, culture, and service. The event was launched by Retired District Judge Shri Ku. Karunanithi @ Kukan, who also presented a shield of honor to School Principal Smt. Chitra Balasubramanian in recognition of the school’s remarkable achievement of 100% pass results in both Class 10 and Class 12. 

In his inaugural address, Shri Kukan eloquently underscored the pivotal role of education in shaping both the social and economic future of the present generation. He dwelt at length on the enduring values of Tamil literature, paying tribute to the contributions of Tamil kings and poets, and lauded the teachers for instilling in students the human values and way of life embedded in the Tamil literary tradition. 

The occasion was further graced by Padmashree Marachi Subburaman and School Trustee Smt. Anbumani, who felicitated the gathering. Tamil teacher Smt. Kavitha welcomed the audience, while Principal Smt. Chitra Balasubramanian proposed the vote of thanks. SEVAI Staff Oriented on Artificial Intelligence for Communication and Development Activities*  

Mr. Arun Kumar, Communication staff at SEVAI, participated in an orientation session on the use of Artificial Intelligence in communication and technical support for development work. The session was led by Sri. Vidiyal Kukan, the pen name of former District Judge (Retd.) Mr. Ku. Karunanithi, who shared insights on how AI tools can strengthen outreach, documentation, and programme implementation.  

The orientation focused on practical applications of AI to support SEVAI’s core development themes. Special emphasis was placed on using digital communication strategies to promote tree plantation drives and to scale livelihood activities. Examples discussed included mushroom cultivation as a low-investment, high-return option for rural women, and the production of value-added products such as mushroom soup and mushroom cookies to improve nutrition and create additional income streams.  

The session also covered how AI can assist communication staff in content creation, data analysis, and real-time reporting, enabling more effective engagement with communities and stakeholders. The use of AI for planning, monitoring, and showcasing impact in livelihood and environmental programmes was highlighted as a key area for future work.  

The orientation was held in the presence of Shri. K. Govindaraju, Director, SEVAI, Trichy, who underscored the importance of integrating technology with grassroots work to enhance reach and efficiency.

SEVAI Shanthi Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Pettavaithalai, rural Trichy District, provides cost-free nutritious breakfast, lunch, and evening snacks to 1,350 students with support from the Feeding India program, under ETERNAL FOUNDATION. Operating from a hygienic kitchen and clean dining space, the school serves a carefully planned weekly menu three times a day, ensuring students receive the calories, protein, and micronutrients essential for growth and learning. By addressing classroom hunger, the program directly improves nutrition and health outcomes—reducing malnutrition and anemia, boosting immunity, and supporting physical development through periodic BMI and health monitoring that enables early identification of at-risk students.

The impact extends into the classroom, where hunger-free students demonstrate better concentration, memory retention, and academic performance. Regular meals also remove a key economic barrier for families in this rural area, resulting in higher daily attendance, lower dropout rates, and greater equity as all students receive the same quality nutrition. Strict monitoring through facial attendance for meals ensures transparency and accountability, while hygienic food preparation and a structured menu promote safe eating habits and dietary variety.

For families in Pettavaithalai, providing three free meals a day significantly eases household expenses and strengthens community trust in the school. In the long term, the program supports girls’ health and education, contributes to better intergenerational nutrition, and helps break the cycle of poverty by keeping children in school and equipping them for healthier, more productive futures.

Sri Bhyas Nair and Smt. Sudha Bhyas had a memorable visit to the Arulmigu Sri Mariamman Temple at Samayapuram, where they met Smt. Shantha Sheela Nair, former Collector of Trichy. The couple received her warm blessings within the temple premises. Smt. Sudha Bhyas shared that their darshan at Samayapuram Mariamman was deeply spiritual, filling them with devotional strength to carry out their respective professional responsibilities. Standing before the Goddess, Bhyas and Sudha offered prayers for the academic success of their son and for the health, happiness, and prosperity of their extended family, relatives, and the organisations they are associated with.

The specialty of Goddess Samayapuram Mariamman makes this darshan especially powerful. Unlike most temples, the main deity here is not carved from stone but formed from sand, clay, and medicinal herbs. Because of this, _abhishekam_ is performed not on the main idol but on a small panchaloha statue placed before her. Devotees believe Samayapuram Mariamman is the “Goddess who helps at the perfect time” — one who intervenes decisively in times of crisis.

She is revered as a powerful healer, especially for ailments related to heat and skin, and for protection against contagious diseases. Women tie cradles and red cloth on the temple’s neem tree, praying for childbirth, and offer gold _mangalsutras_ for marital harmony. The offering of _mavilakku_ — a sweet made of jaggery, rice flour, and ghee — along with raw salt and neem leaves, is central to the worship. Festivals like _Pachai Pattini Viratham_ and _Poochorithal_ draw lakhs of devotees who believe that a single darshan can bring relief, strength, and blessings for health, education, and prosperity.

Young women from the Amoor SEVAI Kalanjium Agro-Forestry Farm, an initiative promoted by SEVAI, gathered for hands-on learning aimed at replicating agro-forestry practices in their own fields. Through practical demonstrations and field sessions, they explored sustainable techniques for integrating trees, crops, and soil conservation — building the confidence to adopt and adapt the model locally.

Smt. Sarala, the centre’s experienced trainer, guided the group with clear insights on how agro-forestry supports both livelihoods and the environment. She explained the long-term benefits: diversified income from timber, fruit, and fodder; improved soil fertility and water retention; and stronger resilience against climate stress. She also highlighted the ecological gains — enhanced biodiversity, carbon sequestration, and healthier ecosystems that sustain future generations.

On the occasion of the 65th Birthday of the Trichirapalli District Welfare Fund Committee, the Manager, staff members, and well-wishers gathered at the Kalyan Ganapathi Temple for a special prayer ceremony.

The puja was performed to seek blessings for the prosperity and happiness of all families arranging weddings in the Committee’s two Kalyan Mandapams. Prayers were also offered for the well-being of officers and employees working in both government and private offices functioning within the campus, and for all visitors who come to enjoy Trichy Birds Park.

The congregation extended special prayers for the health and wellness of the Committee’s President, the District Collector, as well as for all office bearers and staff members who continue to serve the community through the Committee’s activities.

The event reflected the Committee’s spirit of service and gratitude, marking 65 years of supporting families and the public while looking ahead with hope for continued growth and blessings.

It continues today as a living testament to what collective spirit can build without reliance on government grants.

Over the years, the Committee has grown while staying true to its roots. Government officials joined its ranks, and the District Collector serves as the Hon. Chairman of the Committee, guiding its work with administrative insight while preserving its community-driven character. It remains sustained by the generosity of the public. On its own land near the Trichy Central Bus Stand, it has constructed two Kalyan Mandapams and an office complex, collectively known as the Kalaiarangam premises. With an investment of around six crore rupees, the Committee also partnered in establishing the Trichy Birds Park and now shares in its revenue.

The heart of its work beats in service. The Committee runs a cost-free coaching centre for competitive examinations, supports persons with physical disabilities, promotes sports, and provides medical emergency aid and educational assistance to families in need. It responds swiftly to projects that address urgent community requirements. At SEVAI Shanthi Matriculation Higher Secondary School, the academic year begins with a focused Syllabus Review Workshop led by Principal Smt. Chitra Balasubramanian. During this session, every teacher carefully examines the prescribed syllabus for their subject and standard, from LKG to Class 12, to ensure that classroom instruction is structured, progressive, and aligned with the intended learning outcomes. The goal is to create a clear roadmap for teaching that balances conceptual clarity with engaging classroom practices.

It tells the story of a movement already growing across their districts—the SEVAI-Greening India Agro Forestry Program, supported through the SEVAI-Zomato Agro Forestry initiative. Through this partnership, farmers receive high-quality saplings of both fast-growing timber and income-yielding fruit species, completely free of cost. But the support doesn’t end at distribution. Farmers are walked through every step—pit preparation, planting techniques, mulching, and organic protection. Where needed, guidance on micro-irrigation is also provided to help young trees withstand the harsh summer months. Plantation assistance and fertilizers are included, so farmers can begin with confidence.

The students use their song to explain why certain trees are chosen. Fruit trees such as mango, guava, lemon, and sapota bring nutrition to the home and begin to provide steady cash income within three to five years. Once established, they continue to bear for over forty years. In a series of thoughtful addresses, speakers explored the nuances of Tamil expression and the refined art of haiku. Smt. "SEVAI-DESWOS Empower Women Farmers Through Fish Rearing and Biofloc Training at Amoor Kalanjium centre*

Biofloc fish rearing Unit 

SEVAI, with the support of DESWOS, is actively conducting hands-on training in modern fish farming methods at the Amoor Kalanjium Centre. The programme focuses on two approaches: traditional open pond fish rearing and the advanced Biofloc Technology system.

Through this initiative, SEVAI is training women farmers to take up fish rearing as a sustainable livelihood. Participants learn pond preparation, seed selection, water quality management, feeding practices, and disease prevention for open pond culture. Alongside this, they are introduced to Biofloc Technology, which allows high-density fish farming in small spaces using beneficial microbes to maintain water quality and reduce feed costs.

The training combines classroom sessions with practical demonstrations, enabling women to gain both technical knowledge and confidence. By equipping women farmers with these skills, SEVAI aims to enhance household nutrition, create additional income streams, and promote self-reliance in rural communities.
