It was decided by Senior Management of SEVAI Shanthi Matric.Higher
Secondary School to attach more importance school students in Physical Education.
The decision was taken in the esteemed presence of Dr. (Mrs).Benjamine Oberoi who worked in France as an
educationalist specializing in psychology for 10 years and currently she serves
as Vice President of OFI-France and Chief Functionary of CASA Foundation in Bangalore. Dr. (Mrs).Benjamine Oberoi supports 4 or 5 Indian NGOs sparing her time as
well as raising funds for these NGOs. SEVAI a Trichy based NGO is one receives
her support over three decades in the area of capacity building and accompaniment
and financial support through OFI and its partnering
Resource agencies. SEVAI
runs schools in rural areas. Around 2000 students are studying in SEVAI Shanthi
Matriculation Higher Secondary School; Pettavaithalai.OFI had sent a French physical
director namely Theo to this school to give input in physical education.Theo Andre viewed that there is a lot of youth potential in India and Indian youth need to be prepared in Sports
systematically so that the younger generation will secure more medals in sports
internationally.He opined that the school is the right place to kindle the interest of the school pupils in Sports and Physical Education Activities.
Dr. (Mrs).Benjamine Oberoi visited this School
during the fourth week of Oct, 2918 and had discussions with Physical Education
Directors of the school, senior Management of SEVAI Shanthi Matriculation Higher Secondary School and enlightened to improve
the physical education in this school.

Dr.
(Mrs).Benjamine Oberoi said “a Physical education
school is essential to the development of motor skills and the
enhancement of reflexes. Hand-eye coordination is improved, as well as good
body movements, which helps in the development of a healthy body posture. Physical education teaches
students the importance of physical health”. She added, “Health
is often a state of physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual
well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. Physical
education prepares children to be physically and mentally active, fit and
healthy for life in the areas of improved physical fitness, Provides regular,
healthful physical activity, Teaches self discipline, Facilitates development
of student responsibility for health and fitness, Influence moral development,
leadership, cooperate with others, Stress reduction Strengthened peer
relationships, improvement of self-confidence and self-esteem, Experience in
setting goals and Improved academics.(Mrs).Benjamine
Oberoi concluded that the importance of sports and fitness in one’s life is
invaluable. Playing sports inculcates team spirit and develops strategic
thinking, analytical thinking, leadership skills, goal setting and risk taking.

interested school boys with sporting
potential can attend special sports coaching by the Physical Director. Mrs.Benjamine Oberoi also visited the SHG Garment production Unit where
