Speaking to the Farmers training program Dr. K.Govindaraju stated," Converting barren land to a woodlot is a fantastic way to restore ecosystems and create sustainable resources. Here's a simple plan:
-Assess the Land, Check soil type, water availability, and local climate.
Choose Native Species, Pick trees like neem, or bamboo suited to our region.
Prepare the Land*: Clear debris, plough soil, and dig planting pits,
Plant Saplings,Space trees 3-5 meters apart; water regularly.
Protect and Maintain, Use fencing, control weeds, and monitor growth.
Benefits include:
Soil Enrichment,Trees improve soil health and prevent erosion,
Biodiversity Boost, Woodlots support local wildlife,
Sustainable Income, Timber, fruits, or medicinal products."
The farmers visited SEVAI Woodlot in Dasilnaickanoor and had first hand information about the benefits of Woodlot.
