SCOPE is a pioneering non-profit organisation based in Trichy District, Tamil Nadu, founded and led by Padma Shri Marachi Subburaman — a visionary social architect with over four decades of grassroots service.

Nationally renowned as the “Eco-Sanitation Man of India,” Shri Subburaman has dedicated his life to transforming public health through sustainable sanitation. He has designed and implemented a wide spectrum of household and community toilet models, including eco-sanitation, DEWATS, and school sanitation blocks, reaching thousands of families across rural and urban India. His work restores dignity, prevents disease, and turns waste into wealth.

For 40+ years, he has championed *integrated development* — blending water, sanitation, hygiene, watershed management, organic farming, women’s empowerment, and livelihood promotion into holistic village ecosystems. Through SCOPE, he has proved that true development is not piecemeal, but people-centered and planet-friendly.

Though he could have chosen any path, Shri Subburaman committed himself to the voluntary sector — serving not for profit, but for purpose. His leadership is rooted in service and _samathuvam_, inspiring generations of social workers, engineers, and young volunteers.

On the personal front, he and his wife, Smt. Rajeswari Subburaman, have nurtured a family grounded in values and service. Blessed with a son and daughter, both well-settled, they are now proud grandparents. Yet his circle of care extends far beyond family — he constantly encourages friends, well-wishers, and youth to embrace service as a way of life.

Under Padma Shri Marachi Subburaman’s guidance, SCOPE remains a living laboratory of innovation and compassion — where toilets become classrooms, waste becomes resource, and every village becomes a model of self-reliance.
