Women Farmers of Manaparai target villages Share their Farming Experiences in SEVAI-OFI Cluster Meet.
Women Farmers from the Manaparai cluster villages recently came together for an experience-sharing meeting on Waterbodies development like chekdam construction and other water bodies components and it's impact on Food production and crop management under the SEVAI-OFI project. The gathering provided a platform for participants to discuss challenges and successes in cultivating crops under open wells situated in the water catchment area of the waterbodies developed by SEVAI -OFI and also rainfed conditions, with a focus on drought-resistant varieties, soil moisture conservation, and low-cost organic practices. Many women shared how mulching, intercropping, and timely sowing had improved their yields despite erratic rainfall, while others demonstrated techniques for seed selection and natural pest management using locally available inputs. The meeting not only strengthened peer learning within the cluster but also encouraged collective problem-solving, building confidence among women to adopt and adapt climate-resilient farming methods for sustainable livelihoods in dryland areas which became rich due to Water bodies development.
