Women SHG Member sells PDS Commodities to the common Public

Women self Help groups, promoted by SEVAI, a Trichy based NGO run public distribution system commodities shops for the past 23 years since 1995. The district administration of Trichirapalli District in Tamilnadu approved four sub-centres for distribution of public distribution system commodities to eligible public through women members of self help groups (SHGs) in rural areas of Andanallur Block namely Gudalur,Thindukarai, Kamanaickan Palayam and S, Pududukottai village hamlets. With women’s Self-Help Group (SHG) taking up the charge the poor and the needy Trichirapalli District have been getting the benefits of Public Distribution System (PDS) in time.SHGs heads of four SHGs where the PDS are functioning over two decades said they had been taking loads of PDS rice and other items. They are also making regular payments to the civil supply department and beneficiaries are happy as they are getting the subsidised PDS supplies near their home, which they can collect when they have the money in hand. The SHG members are thankful to then Chief Minister and District Collector for approving the PDS project for such a rural hamlets due to which they are able to get the PDS supply. The PDS shops were constructed under Namakku Naame Thittam with the support of Tamilndu Government and local NGO, SEVAI.As the buildings are 23 years old, the structures need renovation and the Women SHGs and SEVAI NGO proposes to renovate the PDS shops run in these four hamlets.-Govin
