SEVAI held a consultation with women farmers' SHG representatives on 14, February 2026 from Musiri Block at its center to discuss expanding the Agro Forestry program by introducing fruit tree plantations on farms with at least one acre of land, water access, and fencing. Under the Green India–SEVAI initiative, agro-forestry has already reached around 500 farmers across 700 acres in select blocks of Trichy and Karur, blending fruit and timber trees. Dr. K. Govindaraju, Director of SEVAI, stated that the plan is to replicate this success in Musiri. Women participants highlighted water scarcity during summer as a major challenge, yet several expressed willingness to adopt and lead the program. Engaging women farmers in agro-forestry not only strengthens sustainability but also enhances household income and resource management. Moving forward, small-group discussions, hands-on training in tree care, intercropping, and market access will help shape a resilient, women-centered agro-forestry model for Musiri. To deepen their understanding, the women farmers also visited SEVAI's model Agro Forestry farm in Amoor, gaining firsthand experience of its benefits and practices.
