Trichy District Celebrates 65th Independence Day with Patriotic Zeal
Trichy, Aug 15, The 65th Indian Independence Day was celebrated with much patriotic zeal at Anna Stadium here on Monday August 15 by the district administration. District Collector Mrs. Jayashree Muralidharan hoisted the National Flag at 9.30 am. An open-jeep parade was held after which he received the guard of honour.On this occasion, Trichy District Collector Jayashree Muralidharan handed three mortised tri-cycles to differently abled persons and distributed welfare schemes to 44 beneficiaries worth of Rs.12,41,236. A colourful cultural programme was also presented by the students which include patriotic songs and dances. “Independence Day was celebrated by several institutions of Trichy District irrespective of caste, creed and religion. The day was celebrated to commemorate the birth of the world's biggest democracy as a national holiday. All the schools and colleges hoisted the national flag on the rooftops and the buildings to symbolize the stature of the national flag as nation's pride. Not only the educational institutions but also offices and business areas celebrated this day in Trichy. Since it is declared a national holiday by the government of India, all the institutions, government or otherwise, have holiday. Balloons-flying has also become a tradition on this day and people were seen flying numerous baloons of tri- colors symbolizing the freedom. Every person reveled in the nationalistic pride.-Govin
