NSS Residential camp organized in Allur by Smt.Indira Gandhi College for women, Trichy.


Community centre was declared open by Justice Uma Maheswari- Principal Dr.K.Meena,Dr.K.Govindaraju,Director,SEVAI and Dr.R.Veerasekaran,NSS State Liaison officer  were present

The N.S.S. Unit of Smt.Indira Gandhi College for women,Trichy,  affiliated to Bharthidasan University organized a Seven Days Special Residential Camp at Allur and they stayed in SEVAI training Important and useful activities were conducted during the camp pertaining to constructing a community centre, leveling of ground, grass cutting, beautification of garden etc.Informative and motivating speech was delivered for the students by Justice Uma Maheswari in the esteemed presence of Dr.K.Menna,the Principal of  Smt.Indira Gandhi College,Trichy and the NSS Liaison officer Dr.R.Veerasekaran and Dr.K.Govindaraju the Director of SEVAI. Dr.K.Meena mentioned on this occasion, ‘A seven-day residential camp was held for our NSS volunteers at to create   balanced environment of eco-friendly village" and the NSS Volunteers took up the construction of community centre in Allur which will used as branch post office. The students also involved in Construction of water-harvesting plant to save water for use in summer, Survey of village and campaigning for health camp, Cleaning of camp-site, organizing Medical check-up camps, Performed street plays in the village based on the themes of Importance of Female Education, Emancipation of Women’. The NSS State Liaison officer, Dr.R.Veerasekarn on this occasion spoke, “National Service Scheme provides the students an opportunity to understand the community; identify its needs and problems as well as the solutions in which they can be involved by assuming social and civic responsibilities. NSS also provides students with the opportunity to apply their education in finding practical solutions to the problems faced by the individuals and the community at large. NSS aims at arousing social consciousness of the youth with an overall objective of personality development through community service. NSS enables students to participate in various programmes of social service and national development, and to help the community.”N.S.S. Volunteers of Smt.Indira Gandhi College for women also conducted Cultural Activities like Debate, Street Play, Elocution etc.Surveys were also conducted by the N.S.S. Volunteers in a Allur village on problems of serious concern like malnutrition, Health Care, Women’s Status, Vaccination etc.Justice Uma Maheswari joined declare open of a new community centre constructed in  Allur by NSS Unit as part of the village development program and it is used for free use by the rural branch post office.-Govin
