Encroachments around Trichy Teppakulam by street vendors have been cleared, and vendors relocated to alternative sites following a Madurai Bench of Madras High Court directive. Around 155 vendors have been shifted to a 21,860 sq. ft. Corporation-owned land near Holy Cross College on Old Madurai Road, with each vendor allotted a 6 ft x 8 ft space. The relocation aims to enhance pedestrian movement, alleviate traffic congestion, and restore the area's aesthetic appeal.
The corporation has made basic arrangements at the new location, including levelling the ground, installing street lights, and water supply. Encroachments in Mainguard gate have also been cleared, with vendors relocated to Old Goods Shed Road. Efforts are underway to clear encroachments on NSB Road, with alternative space provided to street vendors to reduce congestion near Rock Fort.
The Vendor Committee of Trichirapalli Municipal Corporation members, including SEVAI and K. Govindaju, were honoured by Corporation Commissioner Mr. Madhubalan IAS for their services in relocating street vendors.πΏKris
