“The Tamilnadu State government will launch the free distribution of milch cows to women beneficiaries. Initially, 1,600 families each will be covered under the schemes of distribution of milch cows and goats/sheep. Totally, 60,000 cows (cross-bred Jersey) will be given. In five years, seven lakh rural families belonging to the poorest of the poor will get four goats/sheep each; the cattle would be given to the poor who lived in those villages that did not have milk producers' cooperative societies. In such villages, new societies would be established. Beneficiaries would be chosen through Gram Sabhas and 30 per cent of them would be from the Scheduled Castes” said Shri.N.R.Sivapathy, Minister for Animal Husbandry Tamilnadu in a felicitation function organized by Alumni of St.Joseph’s College, Trichy. Shri.N.R.Sivapathy, Alumni of St.Joseph College was invited by Alumni Association as Chief Guest of this felicitation function of achievers and retiring staff. Minister appreciated Dr.K.Govindaraju, Founder/Director, SEVAI, a local NGO, the contribution made for development poor and vulnerable groups. Minister also appreciated organic farming activist Dr.Namalvar, Women studies Director of BARD, Dr.N.Manimekalai and Er.Yussouf for their contribution in the areas of Education and Development for the needy Population. The academic contributions of six retiring professors were also remembered. Minister handed over souvenir of this function for all the achievers and the retiring staff. Rev.Dr.John Britto,S SJ,Rector of St.Joseph’s college felicitated. Rector mentioned that Dr.K.Govindaraju contribution for the village development through SHEPHERD Projects was commendable.Advocate Dharmaraja,Mrs.Muthumaladevi,Gramium Narayanan,Pichimani,OZONE Vice Chairman Mr.L.Shanawaskhan,SEVAI SHG Villuthukal Director,Mrs.T.Vanitha,Trichy District Writers association President Mr.V.Jawahar Arumugam and several other dignitaries part took in this function and congratulated the achivers.
