Trichy: 12, August: 2011: A minor earth tremor was felt late Friday forenoon in parts of Tiruchi, Perambalur and Ariyalur districts region of Tamilnadu, India. Measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale it shook some buildings in the area. No injuries were reported. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the tremor of slight intensity measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale was recorded at 11.37 a.m. with the Ariyalur region being the epicentre. In Tiruchi, residents Manachanallur Block villages and parts of Tiruchi city such as Mannarpuram, Tiruverambur and Woraiyur experienced the tremors. Minor cracks were reported from a few buildings in a few villages. Some schools and colleges in the region declared a holiday in the afternoon. -Govin
