Writer Ponnelan honoured with Jeeva Award

Prof.So.Sathiyaseelan noted Tamil Scholar and the President of Trichy District Writers Association honoured recently Writer Ponnelan, the President of the All India Progressive writers Association with Jeeva Award instituted by this association.Mr.So.Sathiyaseelan, presided over the Award Function. V.Jawahar Arumugam, Working Chairman of Trichy District writers Association welcomed the gathering and introduced the significance of Jeeva award. K.Govindaraju, Chairman of South Zone Board of Continuing Education said that Writer Ponnelan is as progressive as Jeeva.He recalled his association with Writer Ponnelan during his tenure as Chairman of State Resource Centre, Chennai which was functioning under the aegis of Tamilnadu Board of Continuing Education. On receiving the Jeeva Award, Writer Ponnelan appreciated the gesture of Trichy District Writers Association for having selected him for Jeeva award for the year 2013. Writer Ponnelan recalled his intensive association with Jeeva since 1962.He further paid tributes to Jeeva as a social reformer, political leader, litterateur and one of the pioneers of the socialist movements in the state. He also said that Jeeva was not only a socio-political leader, but was also a cultural theoretician, an excellent orator, journalist and critic; and above all, a relentless fighter for the deprived. A down-to-earth person with a clean record in public life, Jeeva was held in high esteem by ordinary people. Noted Writer Prema Nandakumar, Thirkural Murugandam and several writers congratulated Writer Ponneelan for receiving Jeeva Award. Several Tamil scholars felicitated in this award function and hundreds of scholars participated in this function. Govin
