District Welfare Committee Headed by Trichy District Collector K.Rajamani, IAS offered Rs.15000 for newly married five visually challenged couples.Eye donation promoter K.Selvaraj, a former employee of BHEL Trichy organised a mass marriage on 4th Sep for 5 couples with the support of like-minded persons and institutions. What was striking about this ceremony is that 5 couples, one normal and other visually challenged, got an opportunity to get married. The marriage of 5 couples took place in BHEL, Manamahil Mandram. The families of five couples bride and bridge groom were happy to see the marriage. The five couples were T.Mahendran -Ramya, Ragupathy-Symaladevi,Thiruimeni-Andiammal,Thirpathi-Vanitha,and Amalraj-Gayatri. The wedding ceremonial 68 gifts such as home utility vessels and other basic required contributions were presented to the newly married couple.BHEL Deputy General Manager K.Maheswaran, Noted Writer and orator Nandalala, Trichy Red-Cross Chairman G.Rajasekaran,M.Karuppan,T.Vasudevan congratulated the newly married couple. It is noted that so far Eye donation promoter K.Selvaraj arranged and conducted 101 such marriages. K.Selvaj mentioned,’ throughout their younger years, visually challenged people dedicate a great deal of time learning how to adapt in order enjoy the same independence as sighted people do. As they grow, their family grows with them, and learns how to adjust their own attitudes as their loved one continues to gain independence. Marriage for a visually   challenged person is just like any other, caring and commitment to make sure that both partner’s needs and desires are met. By the time a visually challeged person reaches the point where they are ready to commit to marriage, they have most likely become accustomed to the disability and comfortable in finding the way most situations alone. It is difficult to then merge this world with a sighted person, but not impossible. By indulging the need to help, the sighted partner will learn faster just how capable their blind spouse is”.-Govin
