“A respectful, interactive safe environment among School enables school discipline.” –Principal, SEVAI Shanthi Matriculation Higher Secondary School.

Ms.Chitra Balasubramanian, Principal,SSMHSS.

In SEVAI Shanthi Matric Higher Secondary School, then School principal till May 2018, Mrs.Chitra Balasubramanian provided strategic direction in the school discipline system. Principal oriented the teachers during the commencement of Academic year as “the teachers are to develop assess teaching methods, monitor student achievement, encourage parent involvement, revise policies and procedures, administer the budget”. The Principal added “Discipline in school life is very important for students. In school education, discipline is a set of rules and regulations that remind us of the proper code of behaviour. Discipline is ever more important during school life. Discipline is not only important for school students it's for everyone”. The Principal Mrs.Chitra Balasubramanian oriented school teachers for Maintaining Discipline in SEVAI Shanthi Matriculation Higher Secondary School and to ‘treat students with respect, get to know the students, get students engaged and involved, help students work on their social-emotional skills, be fair and consistent, have a

positive attitude and not to  humiliate a student’. The School Principal further said” we can see a successful person we will find that are well disciplined. Disciplined founders and leaders have higher intelligence and strong analytical skills. In school life, students have a tender mind that does not know what is right or wrong. Students need constant guidance and supervision from his/her teachers otherwise; he/she can go towards the wrong path. Using an analogy to explain this, we can say that a school is like a canal that a farmer builds for irrigating his fields. There is a purpose behind building a canal. The maintenance of order and discipline in schools depend on several key persons playing important roles. Keep learners, teachers and parents with activities and decisions in relation to school discipline. Ensure that Peace Education, Conflict Resolution and Social Skills are taught to learners. In education today discipline is something that is feared but never or not fully discussed. Teachers learn about all sorts of things from development to creating lesson plans to cultural diversity in the classroom. But discipline should be addressed is discipline and some tactics to managing it. When we enter our methods classrooms we learn firsthand about the importance of setting up some sort of procedure and guidelines to follow but implementing one’s own beliefs about discipline is difficult when not in the leader position. As teachers we have the ability to create environments that will benefit our students or that will stifle their desire to learn. As teachers, with our main goal set on creating better thinkers, detracting from and stifling growth should not fit into our plan. What we have found is that in order to understand how one should discipline the classroom perhaps it would be best to comprehend why discipline is necessary. In society discipline has been related to punishment. In order to make children "do" better, first we have to make them "feel" they are capable. Most teachers spend a significant portion of their time addressing School Discipline   and student behavior.  While there is no way we can eliminate all our student behavior problems, there are steps we can take to ensure that our discipline program is
seen as effective and efficient. As teachers, there are several things we can do to promote a positive atmosphere with minimal or no disruptions in the learning process. There is no exact science for handling student behavior. Every student and every issue are different and teachers must account for variety in each situation”.
Principal Mrs.Chitra, SEVAI Shanthi Matriculation Higher Secondary School concluded by suggesting teachers to establish a positive relationship with the class. Vice Principal Ms.Kala and Ms.Meena and Ms.Janathamani and senior management of school teachers also spoke on this occasion 5, Sep 2017. Govin
