Sowmya Suryanarayanan - Head - CSR of Society Generale oriented IIM –Trichy Students on CSR on 9, Nov 2018 in Trichy.

Indian Institute of Management, Trichy organized a “Get-To-Gather” on ‘Corporate Social Responsibility’ on 9, November 2018 at the IIM Premises, Trichy. Ms.Sowmya Suryanarayanan - Head - Corporate Social Responsibility of Society Generale, Bengaluru spoke to the students of IIM first year Post Graduate about CSR, specifically on CSR of Society Generale. The partners of Society Generale,SEVAI-Trichy and Gramium –Karur were also present and shared their experience in Watershed Management Project being implemented by them with the support of Society Generale-CSR. Ms.Sowmya Suryanarayanan said that Societe Generale Global Solution Centre (SG GSC), a 100% owned subsidiary of European banking major Societe Generale (SG), embarked on its Indian journey in 2000, and has displayed remarkable

development of the society by investing in high impact programs in the areas of education, women empowerment and environment. Ms.Sowmya Suryanarayanan explained about the watershed project supported by Society Generale-CSR implemented by SEVAI and Gramium in Trichy-Karur region with support of a power point presentation. Ms.Sowmya added that Watershed management as supported by SG-CSR promotes the land use practices and water management practices to protect and improve the quality of the water and other natural resources within a watershed by managing the use of those land and water resources in a comprehensive manner.K.Govindaraju, Director-SEVAI Non-profit extended its gratitude to SG for their support to interior villages of that region where most lands are dry and depends on rainfall. and irrigation water tanks help the farmers to have access to water for their drinking and irrigation. Watershed process has a major component of growing trees and it contributes the upkeep of natural environment in this watershed area as trees contribute to the environment by providing oxygen, improving air quality, climate amelioration, conserving water, preserving soil, and supporting animals. During the process of photosynthesis, trees take in carbon dioxide and produce the oxygen for breathe. The women self Help group groups formed in watershed area are able to earn their livelihood and the families consume vegetables from their gardens and market their agro-products.Prabaharan of Gramium spoke on this occasion and thanked SG for the support of Watershed project

The faculties of IIM, Mr.Manikandan and Ms.Rajalakshimi made elaborate arrangements for this workshop. Small groups of students also had group discussion with Ms.Sowmia, and SEVAI and Gramium teams after the seminar.-Govin
