SEVAI promotes Household vermicompost units 🌿

SEVAI is promoting household vermicompost units to encourage organic farming practices among farmers, recognizing the importance of healthy food cultivated through eco-friendly methods. Vermicomposting is a simple yet effective way to turn organic waste into nutrient-rich compost using earthworms. To set up a vermicompost unit, you'll need organic waste like food scraps or farm waste, earthworms (such as Eisenia fetida), and bedding material like coconut coir or straw. The process involves preparing a shaded pit or container with bedding material and earthworms, adding organic waste regularly while maintaining moisture and aeration, allowing earthworms to break down the waste into a nutrient-rich compost, and harvesting the compost after 45-60 days.

This compost is a superfood for plants, packed with NPK, micronutrients, and beneficial microbes. It improves soil structure, enhancing water retention, aeration, and root growth, while also recycling organic waste and reducing landfill waste. The use of vermicompost stimulates plant growth, increases yields, and suppresses plant pathogens, reducing the need for pesticides. Earthworms are indeed a great friend to the farming community, and their excreta, used as green manure, can significantly boost the quality of food grain cultivation, contributing to a healthy lifestyle. By adopting vermicomposting, farmers can ensure sustainable agriculture practices and produce healthier crops, benefiting both people and the planet 🌿🌹.
